Backups

Our "home" directories are automatically backed up several times a day. If you need a file from this backup (that you accidentally deleted for example), do the following: Currently for every sub directory (of your HOME directory), you can append /.snapshots/ to the directory name, e.g., /u/sfs/R/.snapshots/ and such a backup subdirectory is automagically visible, containing a snapshot of all your files for the last few weeks. You now simply copy files from the snapshot subdirectory to your main directory.

For more information, follow the instructions for accessing on Intranet of the ISG (only accessible through ETHZ or with VPN ).

Data on the scratch or userdata partitions are not backed up at all. This is also the case on the computing machines for the directories /r/ada<i>/ (scratch of the corresponding 'ada' ).

For storing "longer term" data or results (which are not changed often anymore), please use _/sfs/t/_/ to store things. Note that is backed up regularly (similar to your home directory).

Backups
